Have You Posted Your OSHA 200 Log?

On February 1, 2002, employers with more than ten employees should have posted their OSHA Form 200 Summary for 2001 injuries which occurred at the jobsite. Each year, covered employers must sign and post, in areas where notices to employees are customarily posted, a copy of the year's totals and other information regarding injuries and illnesses. For data from the year 2001, the Summary must be posted from February 1, 2002 to March 1, 2002. In order to protect any privacy interest, employers should make sure that only the totals are posted. Even if an employer has no entries for the year, it still has to sign and post its totals (entering zeros for the total number of injuries) contained in the OSHA Form 200 Log for the year 2001. Employers having ten or fewer employees are exempt from OSHA recordkeeping and posting requirements unless asked in writing to comply by OSHA, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), or a state agency operating under the authority of OSHA of the BLS.

January 2002, for work-related injuries and illnesses which occur during 2002, covered employers must record and classify each recordable injury on OSHA's Form 300 and 301 (previously Form 200 and 101 were used) and enter the information for the year on the OSHA Form 300A Summary Log. For the summary of data from the year 2002, the Form 300A must be posted for three months starting February 1, 2003. OSHA has agreed not to cite employers for violations of its new recordkeeping rule for the first 120 days of 2002, provided employers make a good faith effort to track workplace injuries.

Employers are also required to display OSHA's new in 2002 "plain language" employee safety poster entitled "You Have a Right to a Safe and Healthful Workplace. It's the Law!" in a conspicuous place where notices to employees are customarily placed.
